| The Arizona Outlaws are a loose group of rowers who like to row and compete. The name "Arizona Outlaws" was created and registered with USRowing to provide a method for local unaffiliated rowers to race multi-person boats at USRowing sanctioned events. We're also trying to improve the representation of unaffiliated rowers within our local rowing environment. Since we are not a formal club or organization there are no membership requirements; however, if you wish to race as an Outlaw you must be a current USRowing member and be included on our active roster. (US Rowing and local lake rules, not our idea.) We offer no lessons and we own no equipment, so members must own (or be able to borrow) their own equipment. (See the links below for local groups that do provide these services.) We often share the chores of registering for regattas, planning transportation, and booking hotels, but we are not a full-service travel agency - if you participate, don't expect things to be magically arranged for you. Active Outlaws may be asked to share expenses for necessities like US Rowing group membership, though there are no plans to ask for this at present (and you can always opt out of the group). One more thing: because we have no formal organization, we are bound and determined to avoid the usual club politics in this group. If that's your bag, we can suggest other organizations where you may be more at home. Oh yes, only one other rule: no whining. Complaining may be OK on occasion. So why be included on our roster? We're fun :) We race. We train. Good reasons to participate are camaraderie, sharing training and technique tips, organized video taping sessions, and people to hang out with at races. |
